There is something in the works that will give us a major step toward energy independence, create 40,000 jobs, and generate billions of dollars of economic activity. It has been under review by the Obama administration for over 6 years: The TransCanada Keystone XL Pipeline.

This pipeline will be the most technologically advanced, safest, and efficient oil pipeline in history. It will help secure a robust supply of heating oil and diesel fuel into the US for years to come. The pipeline will transport almost 1 million barrels of crude oil per day from Canada and the upper Midwestern US to the US gulf region for processing. A government study found that this pipeline will pose minimal risk to the environment and most Americans support its approval.

So let’s hope our government decides it’s a good idea! One would assume that a better, more secure supply will equate to better prices for heating oil and diesel fuel.
