Auburn, a part of Worcester County, is home to over 16,000 residents. Named Ward, for General Artemas Ward of the American Revolution, the town was incorporated in 1778. In 1837, the town was renamed to Auburn after the Post Office complained that the name was too similar to the town of Ware.
